My 2016 Jeep Cherokee had a bad gas cap so I kept getting check engine light or gas cap warning. I bought this one to replace it. It works it’s just really tight and hard to screw on/off. I’ve had to adjust/reset the O-ring on the cap a couple times and then tighten the cap. Overall it works and I don’t have any errors anymore.

Engine light came on, in our 2012 Chrysler Town and Country minivan. The code was P0456 – Powertrain – Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (very small leak, check fuel cap, piping, etc.). After making sure the current gas cap was tight, I ordered this new cap from Amazon, and it immediately solved the problem. Engine light is gone, problem solved!

Initially, I purchased this item as my check engine light came on, throwing a P0456 code (lead in emission system), to which the gas cap is the primary culprit. When I first installed, and cleared the code, it remained off for a week. After it came back on, I looked at the cap in more detail…as others have mentioned, the cap will rotate and click, appearing to fit, but it wasn’t engaging the threads and could be pulled straight out. I looked at the o-ring in the cap, and it was not fitting in the designed spot (there is a groove in the o-ring that is meant to fit over a flange on the cap). I moved it to the correct spot, and got the threads of the cap to engage, but there was no seal at all – I could lift and lower the cap as it was ‘locked into place’. I’m past my return period, so I didn’t have a chance to interact with the company, so I can’t comment on their willingness to resolve the issue, but I can’t believe the thousands of 4-5 star reviewers had the same issue I did. If you purchase, check the fit closely upon install and don’t throw away your OE cap if you don’t have to, in case you need to return this one!

Didn’t solve my P0456 code, slow EVAP leak, which turned out to be a canister leak located above the tank, due to some rodent chewing on the corner of it. But well worth the try if you bang a P0456 first, before doing anything else. Clear the code, install the cap and see what happens.

I snapped the retaining line in my Jeep cap and then lost the cap at one of my refuling stops. This is an exact replacement for the OEM I lost. Works perfect and took about one minute to install.
