After using this for a very short time, I found it’s very easy to set up with the app. Easy to move as needed when not mounted to adjust the view. Can also move the camera within the app. The SD card entry slot is hidden under the black camera. Roll the camera upwards and the slot is under there. No instructions came in the box except to download the app so, I had to look in the listing to figure that out. Picture is crisp and clear. Can turn audio, 24/7 recording, motion sensor, and volume on/off/up/down very easily. Can subscribe to the recording option to be able to access the snapshots of activity. Subscripton price is reasonable at $3/month or $30/year. So far, everything works, including the subscription options. 1 month free trial was provided. I will update this review in a few months or as needed.

Overall, I am happy to have purchased this as a pet cam for my puppy while I am at work. There are some minor issues in the setup and functionality of the device folks should know about. The app setup was definitely a hit-and-miss process. Even if you follow the directions to the letter, you will probably need to go through the process of setting up the camera and connecting it to your phone/laptop multiple times before it will fully work. That was a little frustrating.Navigating the app itself is also a little counterintuitive. For a while I got the sense that the camera did not in fact have two way audio, but I finally figure out how to make that work. It’s not so much that the button for that is difficult to find/work, but that the audio tends to have a pretty significant amount of feedback, so it can be hard to tell that your voice is actually coming through from your device through the camera. Now having figured out all of the setup steps, I am happy with this and would recommend it. Especially for less than $30. It’s nice that there is no subscription required, like with some cameras. There are upgrade options, but if you just want to use it as a camera to keep an eye on your home interior, you don’t have to pay extra costs after purchasing the device. I also appreciate that it is easy to pivot the camera’s POV remotely from the device it is connected to.Again, a few minor frustrations in setup, but the overall quality and price combination are why I still give this item five stars, and recommend it for home use.

I’ve had other security cameras before, but none like this. This camera is amazing. The picture quality, controls, movement, Kasa app, and overall experience have been excellent. It’s simple to install and use at an affordable price. Highly recommend!

So this is one of the few units that actually records 24/7 to a memory card and you have no monthly fees to pay. This is awesome. Although the size of the unit is fairly large compared to other brands, ill deal with it to have the option of 24/7 recording to memory cards and no fees.I wasted so much money on other brands “wyze” and then they started charging fees even though they said they wouldn’t.So finding these cameras in using twice as many cameras then i was, but im getting what i want which is keeping an eye on my property without monthly fees!Pros:1) the price is average2) no contract needed3) 24 hour recording to memory cardCons:1) instructions are lacking2) controls to move the view are slow and not accurate.3) when mounted upside down the field of view is poor.4) moving trees sets off motion detector and tracking is slow and not accurate6) Video quality is average/poor

I bought two of these because it’s a very good product. The camera is extremely easy to set up. You can view and talk to your pets when you’re not at home. It gives you a really nice sense of security that your animals are safe while you’re away. Plus the camera views are clear and it catches motions better than my ring door bell camera. I would 10/10 recommend this! I’m debating on buying a third one to cover all points of my house.

This thing does exactly as advertised but… Video is delayed a second, but is good quality. Phone-mic to device-speaker is terrible, but that’s a function that isn’t really important. And device is mostly maneuverable via the app (it tapered off a little after 12 months, but is still very usable) All things considered for $30/$40 bucks, this is a 5 Star. I am pleased.

Had some technical issues getting one of my EC-70 cameras working – I had had both of them connected previously but after having them off for a month one failed to connect again. Tried everything i could think of (suspected failed firmware upgrade) but I could not get it to connect to my home wifi. Janice Yang from TP-Link service was able to get me connected again by suggesting I connect the camera to a mobile hotspot – which worked and allowed me to upgrade the firmware and connect back to home router. Great service and great cameras!

I almost sent this Kasa Spot cam back until I learned this tip; thought I would share the tip here in hopes that it helps save others the hassle I went through. I purchased this cam specifically because I wanted to use it to record onto a 256 GB microSD card rather than paying for an iCloud monthly subscription. Set up of the camera with the Kasa app was fairly intuitive and painless. The camera functions as stated and I am happy with the picture quality. When I first inserted the micro SD card in the camera it wanted to format card to ExFAT format (no big deal I assumed). I didn’t think anything of it until I tried to plug the micro SD card into my MacBook Pro to look at the recordings. At that point, my Apple laptop said that it did not recognize the micro SD card and that I needed to reformat it. Doing so obviously would delete the recording thus rendering the intended purpose of this camera and micro SD card useless. After much trial and error I decided to try formating the card on DIsk Utility on my Mac as MS-DOS FAT32. I then put the micro SD card back in the camera and much to my surprise the camera accepted the card without trying to reformat it. Then I recorded some more video. To my delight when I plugged the SD card back into the MacBook Pro I was able to retrieve the video from the SD card (the laptop did not try to reformat the card). So if you are trying to do what I am here the solution is to FIRST format the micro SD card using Dick Utility on your Mac to [MS-DOS FAT32] and then use the card with your Kasa Spot cam to make recordings. I nearly sent the whole thing back to Amazon because I didn’t think it was going to work but this was finally the solution I needed. I hope this helps save you all the headaches I experienced. Overall this is a good little camera for the price and now that I have figured out how to retrieve the video from the micro SD card on my MacBook Pro I look forward to using it.

We have four of these cameras that we use indoors for security and to watch our pets when we’re not at home. For the very affordable price I paid, i’m happy enough with these cameras, but there are some key features that I would gladly pay more for. First of all they don’t connect fully to Alexa. I can only turn them on and off from the Kasa app, and I would rather be able to control them by voice using Alexa. I have gotten around this by plugging them into smart plugs that do respond to Alexa, and then naming the plugs accordingly. This is also how I solve the problem of the cameras, lacking Geo fencing capabilities. I wanted the cameras to turn on automatically when I leave the house, and turn off when I get home, so I programmed Alexa to operate the plugs. As far as tracking and panning go, the cameras work well as long as something passes in front of them that they can then follow. The problem comes in when they end up pointed in a corner, and all the action is happening on the opposite side of the room, where they can’t see it. Even though I have sound detection turned on, they never seem to pick up the hint to look in a different direction. My biggest frustration is when I want to view history in the recordings. I have SD cards in every camera so they can record 24/7. The problem is that the camera history cannot be scrubbed to see a specific moment in time. It jumps by five minute intervals. Meaning if something occurred at 3:29, I have to go back to 3:25 and wait four minutes for the video to play through before I can get to the event. If I want to watch it again, I have to go back to 3:25 and wait four more minutes. This is incredibly frustrating. With my more expensive cameras from another brand, I can scrub the video easily to get to the exact minute and second that I want to see. The frustration is enough that I might be replacing these cameras soon with a different brand that gives me that basic functionality.

So, I do security cameras for other folks as part of my job, but I needed an inexpensive, basic camera for inside my own home. This camera does well. Noise and motion detection is good (sometimes too good – it catches reflections real easy!). Yes, you can hear the motor when it turns, so, a little less quality build encasing the motor, but for the price – hey, that’s reasonable (so 4 stars). The tracker gets bored quickly and resets to home. There are multiple features on this camera, like the patrol mode and zone monitoring that seem like they might be GREAT features. Frankly, I’m just too lazy to go through all the learning curves to deal with that (and the added features are not overly “user friendly” – and if that’s the case for me, that means it’s not pleasant for the average user, so a bonus, but a waste unless you want to take the time to learn it all). My living room is not large enough to need the full 360deg, and its noise detection can tell if someone’s coming from off-screen. It does recognize people (which substituted the patrol mode for me). Great for night vision. Not obnoxious in size. Not intrusive. It’s app is pretty basic – just like every other app out there but I DO like NO subscription fees just to “use” it (there may be some to store to the cloud?). It may have ads, but I haven’t noticed. I did buy my own SD card, got the class 10, 256 GB high fidelity card, and ran this at 2k. Quality was GREAT. I tried 1080. Quality was still amazing. I went down to the 720… and quality was STILL great (but not for face recognition in low light). I’m not looking more than 25 – 30 feet away and the details are MORE than sufficient, giving me even longer record times before it overwrites. It doesn’t always alert me on the app when it sees motion, that is touch and go? Maybe a network issue. I did have a 1-time loss of wifi with router at the very beginning, but that remedied itself. (and sometimes, it is slow to connect – but that is all network dependent, not necessarily the camera). Long story short – if someone’s breaking into your home, you want to know immediately. You want faces. And, you want to be able to report it. This does that and well enough for the price (in fact, it just beeped at me thru my phone while sitting at work and typing this). Again, it’s in the $30 – $40 range… so it’s not going to be “high class”. But, to get to that range, you’re “usually” jumping into the $200-1200+ per camera category, so… for my tight budget, no. It has some mounting options, nothing fancy (like all others in this price range). It’s corded, but you can always find solutions for that (and it’s not a hidden cam, so cord doesn’t really matter, and no battery powered cam will give you good, constant operations without fast draining). Funny note – it picked up motion on our TV screen while binging Supernatural! As an IT person who does camera set-up security, if you’re on a budget, I recommend this. I was going to get a Hiseeu cam because of their quality build, but honestly, the Kasa has audio detection, better audio quality, near the same range of vertical motion, does not have to be mounted up-side down (can sit on its base), is smaller / less obvious, does well at night, does lack the “emergency lights” option (unless I’m mistaken, someone please correct me), and has a “patrol” mode (which, if you’ve ever used 360 degree cameras, you suddenly realize that it can’t see someone coming from a blind spot and becomes obnoxiously useless without a patrol mode and/or audio detection) – and altogether, even tho the Hiseeu motor is quiet and the build is stronger (and it can pair with an NVR whereas I have no idea if the Kasa can), that STILL makes Kasa the better option for me (on a budget).
