This spring, a class I was teaching had to be taught online, as happened to many. I was trying to figure out how to do that and needed a camera for showing notes, figures in the textbook, and things like that. The school was buying some, but they didn’t come in time so I bought this to use myself because it was inexpensive. It worked surprisingly well.Set-up is easy. Go to the website install some drivers and the chrome extension. Then you just plug it in and it works. There’s a convenient auto-focus button, so if the light changes or you change from a book to notes so that it goes out of focus, press the button and it sharpens everything out and adjusts the brightness. The only problem I had is that the field of view is fairly small. About the size of a piece of letter paper. It would be nice to have a wider angle as sometimes if I was writing something it would go outside the viewable area and someone would need to yell at me to move the page up. But really, for the price it was perfectly adequate. Also, it folds up very small and is so light that it would be great if you need to carry it around for any reason.

The Okiocam works great, I did need help from their customer service–which was excellent. Response was within minutes of my email, the rep. did a Zoom with me and walked me through the connection process, showed me some of the features of this little document camera. I’m a teacher working online full-time from home and the Okiocam was a gamble that is working out very well. It is small and feels a bit fragile so I handle it with care and so far–about a month or more it has worked great for me. Takes up little space on my desk which is already crowded with the 2 laptops I require for teaching plus all of my ancillary equipment. I am delighted with the Okiocam–quality of picture and price, once I was walked through it’s use by the rep it is very easy to work and I have incorporated it with the Canvas, Zoom, and Amplify, etc. systems we are using in my district.

EDIT: After 10 days, I refreshed Chrome and the camera works! So, I took down the review before that indicated the camera did not work using the applications in ChromePROS:- Good Quality Camera: 1080p with good dynamic range, works well in low light- Mat: I like the flat magnetic mat that can be placed anywhere and provides good balance for the camera in any position.- Camera Arm: Bends easily and can be set up in practically any direction.CONS:- Buttons only work in Chrome App- Selfie Button that flips image upside down only works in Chrome App (you’ll have to rotate manually)- Chrome DOES NOT save settings and you have to reset everything every time you use the cameraPOTENTIAL IMPROVEMENTS:- Joint b/w camera and arm can be REVERSED, so that the side attached to the camera rotates, and the side attached to the arm bends. This way, you have better ability to rotate the camera no matter what angle it is from the arm. As it is, there is limitations to which way you can point it.- OR you can just put a ball joint in that spot to give the camera full 360 mobilityGreat camera, minus the button issue and freedom of rotation, so 4/5 stars since those improvements can be made.

I purchased this camera because the price was agreeable at $69. I use this for teaching geometry and algebra. I have another document camera but not only did the arm break and require taping, it seemed to constantly need to be refocused. This camera is simple: plug via usb to computer, download driver, and run. I did not know before hand, but it requires you use it with Chrome. Fortunately I default to Chrome as a rule so this is not a problem for me but if you don’t, be forewarned. There is a chrome extension that must be downloaded. The camera itself works well, the arm bends, but I would prefer it also bent where it connects to the base, but that is a small concern for me. It is capable of recording, stop motion, and time lapsing…I have not yet played with those features. As I think about it, I’m using it with my iMac desktop, but it would not run with my Mac Air since the air would need an adapter to plug the usb. You would need to purchase that as well (I have as a matter of fact). All in all, I’m quite pleased with this item.

I didn’t end up using the one I purchased because my work decided to supply me with one but since the review request is here I decided to review it anyhow. I truly loved this document camera!! It worked perfectly with zoom. I teach and teaching over zoom is challenging enough on its own! Having tools that work so effortlessly truly made the job so much easier. The price, quality, and ease of use made this the tool of the year in my opinion! The focus and zoom tools allowed me to zoom in and sharpen the image to make it clear for my students. The colors shown on my computer screen were true to what was being filmed. The only thing I didn’t appreciate so much was the folding pad that the camera attached to to hold it up over the document. I ended up poking pens or pencils through papers several times when hitting a crease. I finally just added a pad of paper on top of the camera’s pad and that solved the problem.
