I originally ordered my first one in September of 2023, but I’ll now be ordering a second one. I bought this recorder to play cassettes I got off of bandcamp, but have slowly been drifting towards producing my own as a DIY music label. I was initially very wary of recording anything on the QFX-39. But I recently tried it out and highly recommend it. You want to get a chord that runs from it to your computer, then hook the QFX-39 up to a pair of headphones. After that you turn the volume all the way up so it’s blasting through the headphones (but obviously don’t put the headphones on, just leave them next to the recorder) and start to record. The lower the sound volume on the tape recorder itself, the lower the quality of your final product. The portability of the recorder is also deeply appreciated because now I can make tapes almost anywhere without a big bulky recorder you have to buy second hand that’s from the 80s and might not even work. Is the sound quality perfect? No, but it packs a punch that I think makes it worth buying to play around with on a budget.

Disappointing is the only word that fits. The tape unit has everything a user might want: USB, Bluetooth, internal mic, even a decent sounding FM radio receiver. The only thing missing is the ability to record tapes that are useable.With Bluetooth connected and active but idle so far as sending data, there is not a sound coming from the built in speaker. And given that USB is digital, there should be none. But, set the unit to record that “silence” and then play it back, and you get far too much white noise. Record music and the level of background noise is high enough to make the tape unusable.Complicating it further, though the computer’s sound volume is set to 75% of maximum, the volume of what’s recorded, when played in my car’s system is significantly quieter than it is when switched to the radio, or disk player (a JBL speaker system in an older Toyota Avalon). That is not true when playing a tape created on some other system.In fact, with some of the tapes I recorded you can hear speech in the background that obviously is bleed-over from the unit’s FM system, which was been switched off when the recording was made. And, in the background of a tape that recorded only silence is a rhythmic thud.And if that weren’t enough, the unit ate two of my tapes, which were pulled behind the transport drive and crumpled.It’s a nice unit, and I want to like it. But somewhere in the chain, someone screwed up.

The plug-in cord did not work and only worked with the batteries. The Batteries were difficult to put in and the cover does not totally close.

Has a built in mic that works as sufficiently as you would expect . However the line in is noisy. The record button as mentioned sticks. And feels like it might break. Not worth the money for recording anything besides MAybe a Convo. It has bluetooth but what doesn’t nowadays . I know it looks cool.aesthetic is 10. But it doesn’t perform that well with built in mics and the buttons just jam up and don’t plop down. No clean dual play record button press. It just doesn’t feel right

POWER LIGHT WILL NOT BE LIT IN TAPE MODE UNTIL YOU PRESS RECORD/PLAY, etc. Recording voice? Slide button on side to ‘Tape’, press ‘Rec/Play’, speak, ‘Rew’ and ‘Play’. I almost gave up and returned it– so glad I didn’t. AWESOME SOUND QUALITY AND OVERALL PRODUCT! My mom bought it for my son and he’s recording stories on it. He loves it! Retro goodness. 😊❤️

This is a decent, portable tape recorder with microphone. The playback speaker is a little tiny but after years of digital playback sounds you get a little choosy. The control buttons are made of very flimsy plastic not what I would expect. My memory tells me that similar items purchased during the 70s had a lot sturdier plastic buttons. This tape deck is very nice for the price.
