Certainly not me! I would classify that these things were gimmick until I tried them. The sound is incredible the pictures you take and videos are fantastic and it works with pretty much all the apps on your phone. The one thing I would say it doesn’t have the ability to transmit live to your phone. The other thing is it limits you to 60 seconds of video. I mean 60 seconds that’s so old school. I guess this product needs a way to upgrade its memory or have a memory chip so you can record hours but the overall product is just amazing.

While the hardware has significantly improved from previous versions and other products in the past, there are still some questions that need to be answered. One of the biggest concerns is privacy, as these glasses have the capability to record both visuals and auditory inputs. There are many times when I was recording interactions or photographing cars, and I would honestly just forget that I was recording sometimes. The video ending noise can be distracting in a conversation, where you’re in a train of thought, and then you hear that noise. There should theoretically be no record limit in here, unless it’s related to overheating.Price and ValueLooking at the price of these, they are actually not bad at all. They are comparable to a lot of modern-day sunglasses. However, it is important to note that the capacitive touch on the side of the glasses can be affected if water droplets fall on it, which can interfere with music or other functions.Capacitive Touch Sensitivity:The Meta smart glasses have capacitive touch sensitivity, which allows users to interact with the glasses through touch. The controls are very intuitive and work quite well with good responsiveness.Transition Lenses Option:The Meta smart glasses come with an option for transition lenses, which can be very practical during the winter months when there is less daylight. The transition lenses can turn dark when exposed to sunlight and then turn back to clear when sunlight is no longer present. This feature is especially useful for those who want to use the glasses for both indoor and outdoor activities.In terms of pricing, the Meta smart glasses are reasonably priced at $299, which is comparable to other modern-day sunglasses. The transition lens version is slightly more expensive. While the glasses are a great product, it’s important that people’s privacy is respected, and that they are aware of when they are being recorded.Functionality Limitations60-Second Record LimitOne of the major limitations of the Meta Smart Glasses is the 60-second record limit. While the glasses offer 32 GB of storage, the record limit can be a hindrance for those who want to record longer videos. During my testing, I found myself forgetting that I was recording, and the glasses would stop recording after 60 seconds. This can be frustrating, especially when recording interactions or events that last longer than a minute.

I used these while on a trip to Africa to record stills and videos of street scenes. The camera could have higher density, but it’s good enough to enable cropping the photos and posting on social media. The videos are good also, although if it’s noisy it’s difficult to tell whether the video capture is going.I also like the speakers, but if it’s loud (traffic, for example) or windy, then earbuds are much better.I should add that the only voice command I’ve used was to take photos, so I can’t judge how well that feature works.

No AI assistant, limited features
AI assistant “only available in the US” and even then will only be fully added in an update “next year”, so you can’t look up anything, the AI assistant is only able to play music and tell you how much battery life is left, useless.Videos will only record for a maximum of one minute, requiring you to then double tap the button again. I was using mine on a motorcycle and could not take my hands off the handles nor touch the button inside my helmet. Voice activation was very hit or miss, and the 1 minute intervals made the idea of using them like a dash-cam completely worthless.The 1 minute video limitation seems to be so that you can’t record other people or leave the glasses in a bathroom or something, but it still allows you to livestream for an extended period so I don’t understand the point. Many of the privacy features are severely limiting and pointless in a world where everyone can legally film each other with their phones anyway, it’s just social faux pas.I thought one of the best use-cases for these would be when people get into altercations and are recording misconduct, the glasses could stealthily record a person admitting guilt and committing an offense against you without them switching to “best behaviour” the way they would if you pulled a phone out on them. Unfortunately the LED indicator and 1 minute video intervals make this impossible.With the limitations this is a neat toy, but the off center vertical-only photo/video are awkward even for big social media users, the pictures are often blurry, the assistant is useless until some time in 2024, videos are limited to 1 minute, and you can’t even send messages to people without pulling out your phone to hit ‘send’ first, it will only open the app and type out the message for you, but require you to use your phone in the end anyway. Everything you’d think it would be good for, it’s just.. not that great. As sunglasses, they’re alright, and as headphones, they’re surprisingly good. I would wait for the next iteration to buy.
