A do-it-yourself job will seldom be done on a 40 ft boat. A sailboat might need such a long cable. For my installation, the cable should be shorter. The manufacturer should consider providing a shorter cable with a quick reference to an extension in the description. Now I have to cut the cable and get a crimp-on connector. I am not happy with the price I paid. It is easy to install the base, and it locks well, so I’m still glad I got it.

A perfect combination of antenna and mount. This marine VHF antenna does not require a ground plane. I used an antenna analyzer and frequency swept from 150-160 MHz. The SWR was a perfect 1.05 on Channel 16 and across the entire VHF band, rising to 1.5 at the band edges. Perfect. My marine VHF radio will have no problem with this antenna. I am on a 24′ pontoon boat on inland waterways. This antenna will last a very long time.
